Drewan Baird. 27 May 2014. 14h30. Eden DA speaker Doris Nayler wrote DA MEC on May 13 already challenging the finding of bias and breach of the rules of natural justice.
Nice going Doris! It’s not the first time, but gentlemen never tell, of course!
Drewan Baird. 26 May 2014. 14h15. The Wessie scandal, of course, and not the budget, dominated today’s Eden council meeting.
A strong rumour that MM Godfrey Louw advised speaker Doris Nayler to have MEC Bredell’s ruling reviewed by the high court was vehemently denied by O!O’s sources.
Louw’s hand may, however, be forced. If the Wessie prosecution was indeed a persecution, he will have to answer some rather grievous questions.
Whatever is said and whatever happens, this fact remains: A DA council, a major DA council, is refusing to accept a ruling of the DA MEC for local government – in his second term!
Wessie is an embarrassment for the DA, for Eden, and for Oudtshoorn. His own Oudtshoorn DA caucus recommended to the party’s fedex early last year that Wessie be removed. He survived that onslaught because the DA subsequently needed him in its failed May 31 putsch. Since then the DA embraced anything and everything that appeared half alive and half witted in its mortifying bungling to gain control. Everyone and anyone is excused everything and anything in the DA’s impetuous makeer-die-pas rush for control in Oudtshoorn.
Wessie survives, very probably, only because he is not white, and therefore precious to a party that has to fight to deny that it is white.
Yet, again… Whatever is said and whatever happens, this fact remains: A DA council, a major DA council, is refusing to accept a ruling of a DA MEC who doubles as the party’s provincial secretary: The DA is all up a gum tree.
