Drewan Baird. Oudtshoorn. 27 April 2014. 09h10. While DA Western Cape “leader” Ivan Meyer called Nkandla the sole issue in the May 7 elections, his Oudtshoorn DA councillors owe ratepayers R2 612 568 in legal costs already awarded by the Western Cape High Court and the SCA.

This amount comes to some 0.35% of Oudtshoorn’s annual budget.

Nkandla, on the other hand, costs national taxpayers a smidgen by comparison: 0.025% of the national budget.

That means that by comparison DA councillors owe Oudtshoorn some forteen times more than the cost of Nkandla.

To drive home the point further: Each DA councillor (o, and the Cope side-kick of course) owes Oudtshoorn’s ratepayers more, by comparison, than Jacob Zuma, who doesn’t, owes national taxpayers.

The cost to ratepayers of Oudtshoorn’s DA councillors must still be adjusted upward for resulting unnecessary and fruitless expenditure following the forced legal expense by council to uphold the Constitution in the face of DA attacks on the integrity of council.

But the DA bitches about Nkandla… Ye gods and faeries, what an outrage!

DA “principle”: Like cell phone reception between Oudtshoorn and Calitzdorp – it comes and goes.*

*In deference to Boris Johnson’s delightful bon mot about his faith, referring to Magic FM reception in the Chilterns.
