Drewan Baird. Oudtshoorn. 23 April 2014. 12h20. Mr Justice Le Grange this morning denied the DA leave to appeal his September 10 judgement declaring the DA’s May 31 failed coup illegal.
Municipal Manager Ron Lottering welcomed the news and assured ratepayers that the legal cost, now running into some R150,000 per DA councillor, will be aggressively recovered.
Final demands will be issued immediately.
In the interim the municipal services of the DA councillors will be terminated as the law does not allow councillors to be indebted to the municipality.
In a different matter, the municipality will approach the Western Cape High Court next week to apply for the sequestration of DA councillor Pierre Nel, who has failed to settle the cost of his High Court action against the municipality in the Noël Pietersen matter.
More details soon.
