Drewan Baird. Oudtshoorn. 17 April 2014. 16h25. Said Lady Bracknell in conversation with Jack Worthing, in Oscar Wilde’s delightfull The Importance of Being Earnest…
Are your parents living?
Jack Worthing: I have lost both my parents.
To lose one parent, Mr. Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.
The careless DA today lost not the second, but its 11th councillor when that political chameleon, Jurie “Die Blou Suitjie” Harmse was removed by operation of law after council’s disciplinary committee found that he had been absent without leave from three consecutive council meetings.
The other 10 DA councillors found to have been similarly removed by operation of law, challenged by the litigious DA claiming that their members were not, in fact, absent without leave on three consecutive occasions – who would know whether they are ever present or not – to be heard by the Western Cape High Court on May 22, I think the date is.
We’ll have to wait and see whether the DA will rush also to Jurie’s aid in challenging his removal.
