Drewan Baird. Oudtshoorn. 17 April 2014. 16h25. Said Lady Bracknell in conversation with Jack Worthing, in Oscar Wilde’s delightfull The Importance of Being Earnest

Are your parents living?
Jack Worthing: I have lost both my parents.
To lose one parent, Mr. Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.

The careless DA today lost not the second, but its 11th councillor when that political chameleon, Jurie “Die Blou Suitjie” Harmse was removed by operation of law after council’s disciplinary committee found that he had been absent without leave from three consecutive council meetings.

The other 10 DA councillors found to have been similarly removed by operation of law, challenged by the litigious DA claiming that their members were not, in fact, absent without leave on three consecutive occasions – who would know whether they are ever present or not – to be heard by the Western Cape High Court on May 22, I think the date is.

We’ll have to wait and see whether the DA will rush also to Jurie’s aid in challenging his removal.

  1. Konstitusie werk net solank dit my pas, daaromwil hulle solank in die stoel sit as moontlik en Ed ondersteun hulle sodat hy net sy pay kan kry.

  2. Enige konstitusie werk so. Die meeste. As jy sulke games wil speel dan behoort jy nie n raadslid te wees nie. 3 strikes and you’re out! Get out arrogant fool!

  3. No, please U said, an empty suit is better than a hired misfit uniform.
Just consider all the monies that we are saving by no decisions being made.
No decision is streets ahead of a wrong decision, whadayasay?
Okay okay, the lawyers and advocates and judges and other loose
cannons may be somewhat out of pocket, let alone the printers with
the oversupply of URGENT stickers building up, while the court orderlies
and genetors having to resort to the square screen of the internet to help them
make it through the long summer days, pretending to look able and busy.

  4. Thats what I was thinking today. Why dont these DA councillors work for a change. Fight in council. Running away from you job and duty will not solve anything. Serves them right. This is deliberate sabotage from the DA. DA Electioneering at its best. They want to pretend to be doing good in the eyes of the public. I for one don’t buy it anymore!
