Drewan Baird. Oudtshoorn. 17 April 2014.
10h00. After various delays council in session has noted the annual budget and the IDP and these documents are therefore now subject to public participation.
Ye gods and faeries, the lengths to which the government must go to counter DA sabotage.
08h33. And a quick friendly word – really – between MacPherson and me.
08h31. Godsk. There goes the DA. I’ll try to find out the hell why.
08h16. The deputy mayor calls for a caucus.
Councillor de Jager complains about not having received an agenda. The speaker hands her his copy and promises to investigate the lapse and report to council when it reconvenes.
The DA caucusses in the chamber; the ANC coalition leaves for another venue.
08h15. A late start. And the usual initial beguiling banter, including prayer.
07h56. Ek groet raadslid Chris MacPherson. Hy hoor nie. Ek groet toe harder. Toe sê hy ek is vermetel om hom te groet. Ek is maar ‘n vriendelike outjie, ek.
07h53. The DA councillors are arriving! They’re here! Ye gods and faeries!
No sign of the ANC members; alliance partners Icosa and NPP are present.
06h15. It’s been some time since we’ve had the dubious privilege of DA councillors in council. That’s probably why Oudtshoorn is so well run these days…
Comment, if any is demanded, from about then.
