The DA tramples even its double standards
Drewan Baird. Oudtshoorn. 3 September 2013. 09h00. There is no doubt that the DA offered money and position to lure 5 ANC Councillors to join the party on May 31.
This coup was planned for weeks. Only badly so. And even worse for execution.
It appears, at first sight, confirmed in retrospection, that the execution of the coup went horribly wrong on the day when not all the DA’s “acquired assets” materialized. But, as is to be expected from poor managers, the DA Councillors had no ability to change tactics on May 31 when vigorous tactical adjustments were demanded. The subsequent legal battle was equally bungled.
I will publish a critique of the abominable strategy and dreadful tactics later. At this time the DA’s unique take on “Democracy” demands attention.
The notes recorded by the DA’s Eden Executive Mayor, and Oudtshoorn Councillor in charge of the bumbling caucus, Wessie van der Westhuizen, reveal the details of a plan one would never expect from a party claiming political virginity.
Notes in Van der Westhuizen’s own hand indicates that the “Oudtshoorn drukgroep” was already active on May 3:
On May 13 positions were the hot topic:
On May 20 the “get-away weekend” to Jeffrey’s Bay was discussed and money for the event sought.
Also on May 20 the appointment of Jeremy Goliath and Hendrik Botha in the Eden District Municipality were confirmed.
Note the “140 x 3” – the amount agreed with a major municipal contractor to fund the coup. The name of the company is known to O!O but can not be revealed as it would compromise an ongoing criminal investigation.
A Local businessman also pledged to the meretricious war chest… and also reneged.
Then the whole thing came apart at the seams.
on May 23 the Eden positions for Goliath and Botha were noted again for a meeting in Riversdal on May 29.
It’s not that it happened so much that disturbs; it’s that the DA claims it is above such shenanigans.
The ANC. The DA. No difference whatsoever.
What we need in Oudtshoorn; what we need in all our local governments is an independent balance of power.
Decision makers turn to O!O first for what’s really happening in Eden
