Drewan Baird. Oudtshoorn. 13 August 2013. 15h30. In disarray. It’s carked. Disquieting. Perturbing. Throughmegather. Deurmekáár! In die âmie het ons gesê iets is so deurmekaar soos ‘n hoer se handsak. Of, altans, die ous wat voorgegee het om te geweet het wat in dié vroue se handsakke aangaan, het so gesê.
Let’s peep into such a handbag… the lady is called Oudtshoorn.
The speaker this afternoon received notice by 13 councillors of a council meeting on August 22. Even though there is a council meeting scheduled for August 22. Probably the DA is not trusting to the speaker’s position as it did on May 31! Yet no s29 notice was necessary; two signatures would have sufficed. Like it was done in Bitou where I hear that the speaker received motions of no confidence in the speaker, the mayor, and the deputy mayor – you make your own conclusions.
Motions of no confidence proposed by Wessie van der Westhuizen and seconded by John Maxim were attached to the notice.
Interesting, to say the least, as Maxim appears before a disciplinary tribunal on Wednesday, and Van der Westhuizen on Thursday and Friday! Both are proportional councillors. Both are suspected of fraud.
Very clever of the DA to have Maxim second the motions! But, above all, it confirms that the DA does not trust Cope – think about it.
But to have one’s motions moved by two members to appear on fraud charges this week still! Ye gods and faeries!
Pierre Nel is in the dog box. His membership suspended, I hear he is not particularly popular in the Marks Building and that the DA leader herself has misgivings about his future in the party.
Jurie Harmse, the very object of the DA’s deus ex machina, is demanding to be mayor. And Sarie is probably also demanding. And we all know how Jurie’s missus can demand.
Now Jurie delivered for the DA… Do YOU think he’s not demanding?
But Jurie may have bigger problems than not becoming mayor. I suspect that Jurie may quit politics altogether before very long… maybe even before the next council meeting. And that would mean yet another by-election in ward 13.
Jurie will be able to quote health problems for his decision. But the real reason will be much more sinister. And never known… if Harmse steps down.
Wessie van der Westhuizen wants “to come home”. This much he told yesterday, saying that he does not even want to be mayor – he’ll be quite content with being speaker. O, Wessie, you old fun bag!
But what to do!?
Jurie; Chris MacPherson; Ben van Wyk; Wessie, despite his jeremiads about fatigue, all want to be mayor.
So few positions, so many takers…
There are Eden positions too… But Lionel Esau won’t stand down again, as he reluctantly did in May 2011 when Theuns Botha probably promised him whatever Esau wanted, to make way for Wessie.
Interesting problems facing the DA brains trust.
“The DA brains trust”.
Now there’s a vivid thought.
Like “military intelligence”. Or “almost candid”. Or “IT support”. Or “airline food”.
“DA brains trust”.
It boils down to this: TARFU. And, unfortunately, BOHICA.
Oudtshoorn is NOT served. NOT. As in NOT SERVED.
Here is the solution, my longsuffering readers: It is a solution I have promoted for a very long time…
In the Oudtshoorn political dynamic, where the ANC aligned and the DA aligned have virtually identical support, a single independent voice can take control. Much like Leon Dorfling did in Eden before 2011.
The opportunity – the only window of opportunity – will probably present itself in ward 2 when Nel is driven out of the DA. No doubt Nel will stand as an independent. Certainly the DA will field a candidate – I happen to know that the DA is already engaged in finding a suitable candidate.
Nel should not be returned to council. After the Constitutional Court con he has lost all credibility and standing. But he will stand in ward 2 because he believes he owns ward 2.
A strong independent candidate is needed in ward two.
It is Oudtshoorn’s last chance.
Why last chance?
Because the DA can not be trusted with the government of Oudtshoorn – just look at the DA’s ridiculous antics since May 31! Not to speak of Diane de Jager’s pathetic reign from 2007 to 2010 – the very source of most of Oudtshoorn’s current problems.
The ANC is clearly not the answer: Pietersen; Mogale; Mnyimba; Sokopo; Mapitiza; Mashini… nuff said.
Will someone please rise in ward 2!?
In the meantime there is shady horse-trading afoot.
Two men of action will enter the stage tomorrow.
Watch this space.
