Drewan Baird. Oudtshoorn. 6 July 2013. 17h05. Given the ease and sang froid with which Johan Brummer was booted out of the DA, after delivering Bitou in the 2011 elections, I wrote Helen Zille about the odds on the DA caucus still being members by close of Business Monday:
Given the efficacy of the membership termination of Johann Brummer for allegedly owing the DA a couple of hundred, what are the odds of the Oudtshoorn caucus being DA members at close of business Monday?
Is conspiring to relieve ratepayers of a couple of million (the “CCSA Deed of Settlement” in Nel v. Oudtshoorn refers) more venial than owing the DA?
The Premier replied: “Johan Brummer received ‘due process’ in the DA. So will everyone else.”
Well, The DA is going to have its work cut out – several of the Oudtshoorn Caucus members have privately intimated that they were NOT party to the forceless “Settlement”.
The man who signed “for Oudtshoorn”, the rogue “Mayor” Ben van Wyk, is the DA’s candidate in ward 6 for the August 7 by-elections.
Does Zille condone Van Wyk’s candidacy, I wanted to know too.
I had received no reply.
Odds on who will be the fall guy(s)?
The virginal DA seems violated.
But really, this May 31 “take-over” and the subsequent derailing of the budget and the fraudulent R4.5m “Settlement” speak to stupidity and not bad management.
Have this lot in charge of Oudtshoorn!?
Not on your life.
Problem is, the DA will very likely win at least the one ward the party needs to govern Oudtshoorn.
And the reason for this prediction is that the ANC is not at all interested in winning the by-elections.
