How political parties make us pay
No holds barred in your face factual reporting

Oudtshoorn. 16 January 2013.
17h00 Cope’s Nic Koornhof has confirmed that his party is investigating the accusations surrounding the claims by Vujani Gouws for additional money.
16h20 Cope’s Nic Koornhof is not prepared to comment on the state of the political appointments as such appointments are common cause, but he did stress that O!O should make every efffort to demand explanations from municipalities carrying such functionaries.
13h35 Here is the “employment” history of the two Cope functionaries in Eden:
No job description
“Advises” Cope and the mayor.
11/7/2011 to 31/1/2012
No job description
Generally known as an “office manager”
09h20 It’s a hit single from the 1985 Dire Straits album Brothers in Arms:
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Money for nothin’ and your chicks for free
Money for nothin’ and chicks for free
Vujani Gouws is the Cope Western Cape leader and is “accommodated” for income as the “political advisor” to the Eden Mayor.
Allan Kock, Cope’s Eden spokesperson, is similarly accommodated in Bitou after nearly a year on Eden’s payroll.
Gouws’ presence was a given when the current Eden Council was constituted after the 2011 election.
And guess who ordered Kock’s Bitou appointment? Anyone? O!O has a copy of the email.
These men do… nothing. And are paid enormous salaries for doing nothing.
Gouws does not even have a job description.
O!O has requested from the Eden mayor’s office a record of meetings between the mayor and his political advisor – the number of meetings; the duration of the meetings; and the reports filed by the advisor. Shall the mayor respond? Is the Pope a Muslim?
The appointments, at great expense to the taxpayer, is payback for Cope’s alliance with the DA.
This arrangement smacks of the DA’s hole-and-corner tactics in Oudtshoorn in 2007 when Jeffrey Swartbooi of the then Independent Democrats had to be accommodated to grease the then alliance between the DA and the ID.
This is the DA that accuses the ANC of cadre babysitting!
And DA politicians sell this conniving on the basis of the alternative ANC-gevaar.
To crown this outrage, there is no agreement in place between the DA and Cope subjecting Cope members of DA caucusses to DA discipline. Therefore no action could have been taken against the Oudtshoorn Cope councillor in Eden, John Maxim, when he moved in Gouws’ stance when the latter instructed Bitou Cope deputy mayor Adam van Rhyner to boycott the December council meeting in an attempt to force the DA Eden Council to allow Gouws a fourteenth cheque.
The politicians care nothing for the people of municipalities. The politicians move and shake for soi-disant self benefit and power. Period.
And they attempt to sell their snake-oil by making out that it is in the best interests of the very people they subvert.
Vote DA or ANC next time at your peril, people of Eden. The proof is all around you if you should care to notice.
