Oudtshoorn. 16 January 2013.
16h00 O!O. Has now also learned that Wessie van der Westhuizen had approached the DA Western Cape leader, Dr Ivan Meyer, to intervene.
In the mean time Sylvester Taylor, see below, is telling all and sundry in Eden that Van der Westhuizen “is nou moeg vir al hierdie k@k en hy gaan sy leier sien” – De Lille? Or Zille?
14h00 O!O has learned that one of Wessie van der Westhuizen’s confidants, Sylvester Taylor, originally employed in the mayor’s office as communications liaison, will be meeting with Patricia de Lille, leader of the Independent Democrats that exists only nationally still untill next year and current mayor of Cape Town, in an attempt to salvage Van der Westhuizen’s political career.
09h10 On December 14 DA Western Cape deputy leader and DA Eden constituency head Theuns Botha was concerned that O!O would report on the doingses at Eden. Botha was troubled that an O!O report could derail DA disciplinary processes in Eden.
Apparently, should information be leaked, the disciplinary process is mortally wounded. Utter, unadulterated rubbish, but there you have it.
O!O agreed to hold back the report.
Yesterday evening the Eden story was completed and ready for publication this morning.
In the apparent absence of Botha’s overt petitioning O!O again agreed at the last minute to hold back the story until Monday.
By the way, the DA does not talk to O!O, as the local chair, Hannes Barnard, is keen to tell every man and his dog.
This morning all hell is loose in Eden because of my letters last night to Botha and Eden mayor Wessie van der Westhuizen.
Mutual accusations among DA functionaries about who leaked information to O!O are flying about like a spaghetti monster.
Here are the O!O sources, for the record – Zille, Botha and Bredell take note, along with your sidekicks in local caucusses and constituency executives: O please, did you really think I’ll drop my sources? I had already been threatened with court action and have refused to divulge sources.
This much I’ll tell the poor petulant politicians: My sources aren’t local. My sources have intimate knowledge and are sources exactly because they believe that the DA is faltering in Eden.
The DA is concerned about my knowledge of the preliminary external audit report… and my knowledge of the accusations against Van der Westhuizen not even in the report.
The present panic in Eden is about my knowledge of what happened to the report delivered to Van der Westhuizen yesterday.
An anonymous phone call is my source. I used the information to ask a few targeted questions, and voila! Also, there is a voice recording of the happenings around the speaker’s office yesterday when Van der Westhuizen “returned” the report to her.
I can say without fear of contradiction that I have never met, nor have ever spoken to the Eden speaker.
I do know that Van der Westhuizen ordered the speaker’s access to O!O blocked and that she had to arrange yesterday to have access because, as she apparently said, she needed to know what was happening in Eden.
The DA is a joke. The party cannot even run Eden – a district municipality without any of the local government issues faced by councils daily.
When O!O does publish the Eden story next week, it will start a month before the 2011 elections, on the day the DA decided that Wessie van der Westhuizen would be its poster boy.
For the moment, however: The DA is in dire straights in Eden. And it is desperately trying to keep the people of the Southern Cape in the dark.
The DA has until Monday…
