A fresh new breeze in the DA, indeed!
08h10. Statements by Regional Magistrate Mark van Wyngaardt in sentencing the former Municipal Manager, Noël Pietersen, to 5 years in prison this Wednesday last, prompted OO to complain to the newly elected Chairman of the DA Constituency Committee, Hannes Barnard.
February 16, 2012
Mr Hannes Barnard
The DA Constituency Committee
I congratulate you on your election in the hope that your sharp mind and strategic turn may invigorate the DA in Oudtshoorn.
Yesterday’s judgment in the Noël Pietersen fraud case illumed the role of the then DA controlled Council, and specifically the noisome dearth of leadership displayed by Diane de Jager, in the damnable circumstances that surrounded the Pietersen incumbency generally and the Smith Tabata payment in particular.
Regional Court Magistrate Mark van Wyngaardt called the conditions at the time of the payment a “nest of rotten fish” and “not a pretty picture” and the behaviour of particular councillors and officials “disgusting”.
We all of us, especially the DA leadership, know the facts in this case. I have covered it on OudtshoornOnline on numerous occasions and see no reason to revisit De Jager’s execrable political career at this time.
It is time, Hannes, it is time for Diane de Jager to be relieved of her duties as Councillor. It has been time for so long, Hannes.
Oudtshoorn has had its fill of corrupt officials and incompetent councillors.
Please indicate when and how De Jager will be removed from office.
You may also wish to comment on the dubious discernment of your MP, Jac Bekker, who insisted on the secondment of Tinus Mathyssen as CFO during the early part of Pietersen’s tenure – in the light of the magistrate’s disparaging remarks on Mathyssen’s behaviour.
